One less lonely girl

Holly's 8th birthday celebrations are directly around the corner so we decided to have a fun photo shoot tonight.  It's so crazy to think that she is that old already. Even though she is not my oldest and it's waaaay more crazy to say I have a 10 year old, Holly was my youngest for so long. She was my baby Holly for 7 years (seven years of her begging for a sister). Seven years before she actually reached her life goal of becoming a big sister.

Now I have an 8 year old baby.  There is just something about Holly's spirit that makes it okay to still call her my baby Holly. I love spending QT with Holls. She is such a quality time person. Even though it's not my love language, it is hers so I love filling her cup with plenty of it!

Holly never asks for much for her birthday. She never has. (Slightly different from her brother in this department). One thing Holly does, however, ask for is one hell of party. She plans for 364 days prior to September 9th how to top last years party. This would be why she cried her eyes out when she heard that Aunt Makayla, her right hand man, couldn't make her party. It was way to heartbreaking to watch so we immediately switched the date. She needs her people there to celebrate with her. If they bring a gift...bonus...but her main focus is their presence not presents.

Speaking of presents, I'm pretty much peeing my pants with excitement to give Holly her gift from Gage and I.  Is there a better way to spend QT with an 8 year old girl than at a Justin Bieber concert? If you answered NO, than you are correct!

The JB t-shirt and CD have been purchased and wrapped. The tickets are printed and locked up. Even though I see no reason for Holly to be interested in boys until she is at least 20, I will be campaigning for her to be the One Less Lonely girl come October 26th.  Since Aunt Kenzie is coming with us, the only hurdle we may run into is fighting her for that spot on stage.

Justin's biggest fan

I can't wait to celebrate with my 8 year old this weekend!  This birthday is sure to bring some great memories.  Thank goodness Aunt Kayla can come! Next weekend we are taking about 20 little girls to the zoo to continue the celebration.

To be continued......

I tried to rotate this picture for 20 minutes and gave up.  Even sideways and scared out of her mind of heights, she's still a cutie.

15 Months

**Bragging alert**

(To my sister, Mandy, mother of 3 1/2 babies: you might want to skip this one.  Just saying)

It's been a while since I've given an update on my (nearly perfect) baby.  Now that the kids are back in school, I just sit at home with my ONE child and watch her come up with creative ways to entertain herself.  She's pretty good at it too.  Obviously, her favorite thing to do is play with her BFF, Jarjar.  He lets her do whatever she wants.  Like, brush him repeatedly while laughing, feed him his food one piece at time, pull on his tail, squeeze the living daylights out of him, poke his eyes,  or cover him up with blankets.   You name it, she's tried it.  As much as I don't like Jarjar, I will say that he's been a great playmate for Stella and he's always a good sport about it.  Way to take one for the team, Jar.

Stella's second favorite thing to do while the big kids are at school is to put on fashion shows for me.  She LOVES dressing herself.  We've already touched on her obsession with shoes, but she also loves ALL clothing including and especially socks.  Since she is indeed only 15 months old, she pretty much never gets the clothes put on correctly.  Which makes it that much more hilarious.  She does tend to get a little frustrated with herself after a while but refuses to give up.  Here's a video for you to enjoy.  Lord knows we have been enjoying it around the Cobb household!

Stella is also trying very hard to talk.  She babbles all day long.  She still melts my heart every time I hear her say "mama."  She loves to say "ball" and tires so hard to say "Holly."  She is even starting to put two words together.  She says "Hi Stella" and "Uh Oh" and "No No Jarjar" and I swear yesterday she said "my blanket."  Okay, maybe that was me.  I can't remember.

Here, you will find her up to no good in her room.  This is before she pulled all the clothes out of her drawers and begun the daily fashion show, but AFTER she dragged the blanket in there, wrapped herself in it and began taking pictures of herself on that Ipod.  When I walked in she said "cheeeeeeese!"

When Stella was 10 Months I listed her stats, so I thought 15 months would be a good update:

*Continues to sleep 10-12 hours at night (and gets mad when I wake her for school)
*Favorite foods are bananas, asparagus, tofu  (and goldfish crackers)
*Super girly and loves to carry babies and purses (and make messes)
*Walks or runs everywhere she goes (and makes us push her in her wagon constantly)
*Still only has 4 teeth but her hair is starting to grow! (not long enough for a hair clip)
*VERY cuddly and loves giving hugs and kisses (we even love the wet sloppy ones (that taste like goldfish crackers))

We are not sure where the blonde hair comes from but we all like it and hope it stays.  It's fun that it's getting longer, especially for Gage for some reason.  He thinks it's funny to part and comb it after she takes a bath.  Sammy and Holly call her 'Steven' when she has her parted hair-do.  Stella doesn't mind looking like a boy every now and then because she LOVES when people laugh at her.  No idea where she gets that from.

I'm not telling you what is in her mouth

Back to school has been pretty much awesome for Stella and myself.  Whoever said ONE is the loneliest number is crazy.

Goodbye Summer 2012

The end is here.  We had such a great summer and it's so hard to believe that it's actually over.  I feel like we just Welcomed summer 2012 like yesterday.  Since I've worked basically non-stop for the last 3 weeks, I thought I would for sure be feeling sad this week that the last half of summer flew by in a blink.  I was wrong!  I'm as ready as ready can be.

What's that you say?  A clean house?  A quiet nap time?  Say what?  I'll take it!

Summer is my favorite season by a landslide but it always seems to end at just the right time.  The weather has gone from a blistering round-the-clock heat to a beautiful, crisp 80 degrees practically overnight.

Our Summer went out with a BANG when we went apple picking over the weekend with friends.  I wish it would have ended on that really great note, but Holly still managed to fall off her bike and split her eyelid in 2 places tonight.  Nothing says "welcome to 2nd grade" like a black eye on the first day.  In her defense, she made it almost a whole year since the last black eye.  I guess the 6 hours a week of ballet is finally starting to pay off.

Pre-black eye photo

Highlights of our summer:

1. Sammy making a select baseball team    (read here)
2. Holly learning to swim like an Olympian  (read here)
3. Stella learning to walk                            (read here)
4. My 30th birthday                                   (read here)
5. Swimming at G &G's house and one kick butt 4th of July party
6. Our trip to Kansas City and Oceans of Fun
7. London Olympics
8. Apple picking with friends and boating with family

Things we will not miss about summer 2012:

1. Fighting over Ipods
2. Fighting over goggles
3. Fighting over who has to take a bath first
4. Fighting over who's turn it is to put the dishes away
5. Messes on the kitchen table
6. Not being able to see Holly's bedroom floor
7. Sam's bike chain breaking everyday
8. Neighbor kids that say bad words

Potato, potata.  Summer is over and Fall is in the air!

Tonight was back to school night and we got to meet the kids' teachers.  We are ready to get this show on the road.  I've already got choked up twice just thinking about the 5th grade "clap out" on the last day of school.  Seriously.  If you follow my updates, you know how I feel about Middle School (booo).  That's why I plan on enjoying every second this year.  My little Willowdale Wildcats have their new bookbags packed and new kickers laid out.  They labeled all their own crap, which, at the time sounded brilliant but I later realized I probably should have monitored the process.  I suppose I will have to explain to Sammy's teacher that his middle name is NOT actually "The Man"  nor is it "Mr. Awesome."  I don't think anyone will have a problem identifying Holly's belongings with the enormous HC plastered all over each item.

I have a feeling that blog updates will be more frequent when the kids head back to school.  The first day is Wednesday but it will take me the remainder of the week to get my house looking like it did in May.  The coming months are sure to bring great entertainment to the Cobb's, therefore providing plenty of blogging material.  So far, Sammy is killing it on the football field.  Not only is football going to be a whole new experience for us this Fall, but Holly's birthday is weeks away and I have one hell of a birthday present for her.  It is going to knock her socks all the way to Kansas City!  Specifically when Justin Bieber is there.  Fun times are roundin' the corner.

Two Peas in a very lopsided Pod

Stella and Mayzie have continued to become the very best of friends.  It's total squeals from them both when they see each other.  Even though they share their love, their personalities couldn't be more opposite.  Neither could their bodies but we won't go there.

Daisy head Mayzie just celebrated her first birthday where we found out that baby #4 is, you guessed it, a GIRL!  Being from a family of 4 sisters, trust me when I say that this is a good GREAT thing!  Those girls have some fun fun times ahead of them.  Plus, Mandy and I really enjoy singing "Little Girls" from Annie.

I mean, seriously....look at what we're drippin' with....

Poor Sammy boy.

And, did you get a good look at Thing 1 and Thing 2 in that last picture?  Twin cousins.

I could eat them.  We are so excited to add another little girly girl to the bunch!  Happy Birthday, Mayzie Dayzie!  We love you so much!  (especially Stella!)

Way to crush that cupcake, girlfriend!

Summer update

Since it's been forever since I've updated the blog, I thought I would give a general update about what the Cobb's have been up to...

I've been working.  A LOT.  It's choreography season and my brain is ready for a weekend of rest starting now.  Mandy and I just pumped out 13 dances in two weeks (5 more to go) and I can NOT WAIT to see them on stage this year.

Sammy started football last month and is having the time of his life.  I'm totally new to this tackle football business and I've clearly got a lot to learn.  The rules say something about not being able to practice in full pads until August and today was his first "full pads" practice.

*Note to self:  football parents pack a cooler and lawn chairs and stay to watch (and yell) the entire 2 hour practice.

Even though I was the youngest mom there, I felt a little old school for wanting to drop my kid off in my minivan and hit the road.  Since, I've gotten much better at "looking" like I know what I'm doing, I decided to stay.  For the first half.

*Note to self:  don't wave at your son when he looks your direction.  (I knew that one too!  Just had a moment of weakness.)

Moving on.

Holly is loving dance (and doing a whole heck of a lot of it).  She is also swimming everyday, riding her bike and, of course, falling every couple minutes.  She has brushed her hair a total of 4 times all summer but has finally nailed her "leg grab."

Stella has been getting funnier every day.  She has been very into her Daddy lately and she talks jibberish all the day long.  We also took a mini family vacay to KC a few weeks ago and Stella was on her very best behavior the whole time.  We left her with Gage's sister in KC while we took the big kids to Oceans of Fun.  It was a blast, even for Gage, who is not a fan of swimming.  We did some shopping and topped off the weekend with visiting Lawrence.  Duh.

My biggest downfall this summer, and quite possibly all year, was when I awoke the morning of July 26th.  Gage and I began going about our business for a few hours before he left for work and said "bye, Miss."  I told him goodbye and quickly hurried back to my choreography.  He then stopped me dead in my tracks when he replied with "happy anniversary."  Ouch.

For the record, this was the FIRST time in our 9 glorious years that he remembered and I forgot.  Since I had to work that whole day, he was really feeling like Mr. Romantic and sent me flowers at work.  Another first.  That's a great man I married, folks.  Nine years ago.

Even though it's been busy, our summer has been great.  We have had a few bumps here on Barretts Drive but it helps to have friends (and family) in high places.  For example, our dryer has been broken off and on all summer.  My sister lives 1.2 minutes away so we have made several trips there while our awesome neighbor fixes the dryer every couple weeks.  In addition, our electrical panel just about started a fire and needed a full service ($$$$$$$$$).  Thank goodness I have the best daddy in the whole wide world, who also happens to be an electrician.  No questions here, we are blessed!

To keep things exciting on Barretts Drive, yesterday there was a water main break at the top of our hill.  Sam literaly said it was the best day of his life.  Neighbor kids on bikes came out of the woodwork to splash through the streets.  Now that's some quality, free, summer fun.

In review; 13 dances, skinny excited football player with a clueless mom, a scrubby yet happy dancer, well behaved and funny baby, Jayhawk fill for the summer, forgetful yet loved wife, handyman within arms reach, electric master gramps, and more neighbor kids than we thought.

So far so good.
